Five Days in November

A notice nobody read. A Wednesday off. And on the Saturday, in towns all over this country, the people who took the charge sheets.

The notice
There is a notice in the Government Gazette. Number 55352. It went out on 8 September and almost nobody read it.
It says 4 November is a public holiday. The whole country. The President signed it under section 2A of the Public Holidays Act, which lets him do exactly that, by putting a notice in the Gazette. The reason is the municipal elections. Hlabisa proclaimed the date back in August. Special voting is the Monday and the Tuesday, 2 and 3 November. The Wednesday is the day off.
They put it there partly to keep it off the matrics. The schools are the polling stations. The children have to write somewhere.
So that is what it is. A day off work to go and put a cross next to a man who will not fix your road.
The Saturday
Revolution Day is 7 November.
Cameron Bramley started it. It belongs to Fields of Green for ALL, which is the outfit Myrtle Clarke and Julian Stobbs registered in 2013 to carry the evidence in the Trial of the Plant. They put it in writing on their own website. A human and constitutional right to use, possess, cultivate and trade in cannabis.
Trade. They say the word. Almost nobody else in this country will.
They are building a museum. The Cannabis Activists Museum. Graham Alexander is doing the drawings. It is for the people who got charged. Julian Stobbs is one of them. Mario Oriani-Ambrosini is another. There are more and most of you have never heard their names, which is roughly the point of building the thing.
Bramley says he wants it so that “every voice is heard, every fallen hero is recognised and all our stories come to matter for the greater good of the generations that follow us.”
About the farm, and this is the only time we will say it
There is a place at the centre of this. It has a name and the name is public. Where it is, is not.
That is not an oversight and it is not us being coy. The people who run it keep the address off the internet on purpose, and they have their reasons, and the reasons are good enough that we are not going to sit here and explain them to you either. If you have a reason to be there, the organisers know how to tell you. If you do not, you do not need it.
We could probably work it out. So could you, with an afternoon and a search engine. We are not going to, and if you are the sort of person who would, have a think about who else does that for a living and what they do with it.
So this piece does not tell you to drive anywhere in particular. It tells you something better.
The day is not one address
Revolution Day was never built as a single venue with a gate and a queue.
Brands, venues, organisations and ordinary people around the country have been asked to hold their own. Cities, coast, small towns, wherever there are enough people who care to put something together. By the first week of November there will be gatherings in places nobody has announced yet, and the map of it only gets legible about a fortnight beforehand.
Which means the question is not how do I get to the farm. The question is what is happening near me, or near where I would rather be that week.
Count it
Monday and Tuesday are special voting. Wednesday is the holiday. Thursday and Friday are ordinary working days that somebody else in your office is already looking at. Saturday is Revolution Day.
Take the Thursday and the Friday. Two days of leave. You get five.
That is the whole trick and there is nothing clever in it. The State cleared the week to run a municipal ballot. It did not know what else was in the week. It never does.
The law, short
Private use is lawful. An adult, in private, for himself. The Constitutional Court said so in Prince in 2018. Eight years ago.
The Cannabis for Private Purposes Act was signed in May 2024 and it has never started. It needs a proclamation from the President and there has not been one. The draft regulations went into Gazette 54061 on 2 February 2026, notice R. 7067, comment invited by 5 March. They are still sitting on the Justice department’s own invitations page. Released 3 February 2026. No closing date next to them.
Seven months.
Four other consultations from the same department opened in August. All four have closing dates on them.
Dealing is still a crime and nothing on this page tells you otherwise.
What we actually want
Now the other half, and we mark the line so you know which is which.
Treat it like a crop. Potatoes, maize, figs, olives, honey. A woman sells fig konfyt at a farm stall and nobody registers the tree. A man sells honey off the back of a bakkie on a Saturday and nobody counts his hives. Let the grower grow it, let him sell it, tax what he earns, and stop there.
The bad grower goes out of business because people do not come back. That is how it works with everything else people put in their mouths.
Liquor gets licensed at the till. Nobody counts the vines in your yard. Nobody weighs the grapes in your bucket. Weighing what a man has instead of watching what he does is the mistake, and it is sitting in those draft regulations right now, in grams.
We are not asking for a kinder Act. We want it forgotten.
Book the week, not the address
Here is the practical part and it is short.
You have five days available in the first week of November for the price of two days leave. Something is going to be happening on the Saturday in more places than anybody has listed yet. And there are parts of this country you have been meaning to go and look at.
So pick the place first. Somewhere you actually want to wake up. Then watch for what is happening near it, which will firm up in late October, and we will carry the list when it does.
Book it in September. Not the third week of October when the rest of them wake up. A national public holiday on a Wednesday takes the good places out of the market early, and it does it quietly, and the people who move first are the ones sleeping somewhere decent.
And if you have a room, a cottage, a cabin, a flat over the garage or a flat patch of grass for a tent, your first week of November changed on 8 September and nobody told you. A holiday on the Wednesday and an occasion on the Saturday fills a property. It fills it for whoever is easy to find.
CannaStaySA is an information and advertising directory. Over eighteen only. We do not sell cannabis, supply it, broker it, or help anybody else do any of that, and there is nothing on this page that tells you where to get any. What we do is tell you who has a bed, in which town, on which night. You talk to them yourself.
A notice nobody read. A Saturday that was always coming.
Go.
Make it before they take it, Selah.
